Project Proposal

First built in 1909 and expanded in 1917, Adams Elementary is the oldest school in Spokane. Enrollment growth in the area required the addition of several portable buildings in the 1970s, and the main school building has issues with efficiency, accessibility, functionality, and security.

The current building also does not fulfill Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design, lacking an elevator and appropriate ramp access. At this time, students living in the Adams boundaries needing these accommodations must transfer to a different elementary school.

The 2015 SPS bond approved by voters funded the design of a new Adams that will improve building efficiency and accessibility. The design has been completed by NAC Architecture of Spokane, making this project “shovel ready.”

As with the Madison School project, Boys & Girls Club of Spokane County has signed on to invest in the facility. This will bring down costs to taxpayers and provide after-school programming at Adams for the south Spokane community.
