The establishment of joint projects and mutual use agreements provides an opportunity for SPS, Parks, other public agencies, and community organizations to continue to identify strategies to create efficiencies that benefit the community.
Among future project opportunities is a long-term planning for a new school and park to be in the Latah Valley/Hangman Creek neighborhood to meet the needs of the area’s growing population related to increased housing development.
Another potential project in cooperation with SPS, Parks and Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf could be to utilize facility space at Spokane County Fair and Expo Center to provide additional indoor court space to the community for youth and adult recreational programming.
Develop more fields at the site of former Joe Albi Stadium to double Merkel capacity and support increased student and community interest in recreational activities.
Build a facility that would co-locate a new Madison Elementary School and an enclosed, publicly accessible multi-use recreational facility adjacent to Franklin Park.
Renovate the indoor aquatics facility at Spokane Community College to expand Parks aquatics programming and develop a swimming lesson program for elementary students.
Partner with the United States Tennis Association to construct an indoor tennis facility at Shadle Park High School.
