The Spokane Public Schools Annual Capital Projects Campaign uses bond funds for necessary facility upgrades and ongoing improvements to ensure each of our 58 schools is safe, secure, and has a long useful lifespan.
Our SPS Capital Projects team gathers input from principals, maintenance and safety department staff to develop a recommended list of smaller projects to undertake in the following year. The "Annual Capital Projects Program" is then reviewed and approved by the school board.
A replacement of Linwood Elementary School, which opened in 2019, was funded by the 2015 bond.
Buildings that have been constructed or received major renovations within the past 10 years do not have as much need for annual upgrades as older schools. The Capital Projects team collects recommendations for improvements at all schools each year, even at newer buildings, so we can thoughtfully plan to use bond dollars to keep technology systems current, enhance safety, improve buildings to meet programming changes related to 21st century learning, and provide upgrades to extend the life of our facilities for generations to come.
A list of all Annual Building Improvement Projects since 2018 provides more examples of the scope and cost of these efforts to keep district facilities in good working order.
