Restroom Replacements & Renovations

The 2022 Parks and Natural Lands Master Plan identified restrooms as one of the top two highest-priority assets to upgrade and add within city parks.

This initiative will either repair or replace every restroom in Spokane parks, and add restrooms to key locations.

Seven in ten residents considered the lack of consistent restroom access and quality a problem. Most park restrooms do not meet current ADA accessibility requirements and building code regulations, are more easily vandalized or damaged, are difficult to repair once damaged, and need significant repair or replacement to reduce future maintenance burden and meet community expectations.

This project will replace about half of all park restrooms citywide, and renovate the remaining half. Replacement and repair locations and priorities will be determined annually by physical condition.

Key Improvements:

  • New Restroom structures where full replacement needed
  • New Fixtures & coatings in all restrooms citywide
  • Privacy partitions in communal restroom settings
  • ADA accessibility upgrades
  • Replacement of antiquated sewer lines
  • More frequent cleaning and opening of restroom buildings
  • Utility improvements for extended cold weather use
