Project Proposal

In January 2025, SPS purchased a building known as Riverpoint One as part of an ongoing financial strategy to consolidate properties in order to reduce operational costs and create efficiencies across the district. Under consideration in this plan is the relocation of the SPS central administrative office and the district’s project-based learning high school, The Community School (TCS), to this facility located in the University District. This location offers potential opportunities to enhance TCS programming and complement the school’s community-integrated learning initiatives.

The move would also enable the sale or lease of the school’s current building, the Bancroft Building, as well as the district’s current administrative building at 200 N. Bernard St. Additional properties would also be also under consideration for sale or lease as part of this plan to consolidate and reduce.

Also under consideration would be identifying a location or building for a joint operations and a storage facility that could accommodate the needs of several public agencies, including SPS, Spokane Police Department, Spokane Fire Department, and the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC). A City-owned property known as the Nelson site has been identified as a potential location for this project.

SPS would build and operate the facility to address the significant storage needs of all parties and allow the MAC to repurpose its current, on-site storage to expand exhibit space and learning opportunities.
